Cookie Policy

This Cookie Policy explains how Merlin Fuchs ("we," "us," and "our") uses cookies and similar technologies to recognize you when you visit our website at https://message.style. It explains what these technologies are, why we use them, and how you can control them. In some cases we use cookies to collect personal information, or information that becomes personal information when combined with other information.

What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small data files that are placed on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, to make them work more efficiently, and to provide reporting information.

Cookies set by the website owner (in this case, Merlin Fuchs) are called first-party cookies. Cookies set by anyone else are called third-party cookies, and they enable third-party features or functionality on the website. The parties that set them can recognize your computer both when it visits our website and when it visits other websites.

Why We Use Cookies

Some cookies are required for technical reasons in order for the website to operate; we refer to these as essential or strictly necessary cookies. We also use local storage to remember your settings between visits, such as the message you are currently editing. We do not use cookies for advertising and we do not allow advertising networks to serve cookies through our website.

The specific cookies served may vary depending on which parts of the site you visit. Images you add to a message are loaded from wherever they are hosted, which may set cookies of its own.

Analytics

We measure how the website and the editor are used with OpenPanel, which we run on our own infrastructure, including the script your browser loads for it. The data stays with us, no analytics data is sent to a third-party provider.

OpenPanel does not set cookies and does not store an identifier in your browser, so there is nothing to opt out of on the cookie level. It records page views and clicks on links to other websites, along with the technical information every web request carries, such as your IP address, user agent, and referrer. Visitors who are not logged in are counted using a hash derived from that data, which cannot be used to recognize you on other websites.

When you are logged in to the editor, we also send your Discord user ID and username with these events. That links your usage to your account across visits and devices, so we can see how the people who use the editor use its features. You can object to this, or ask us to delete that data, by emailing privacy@message.style.

How to Control Cookies

You can set or amend your web browser controls to accept or refuse cookies. The way to do this differs between browsers, so check your browser's help menu:

If you reject cookies you can still use the website, but your access to some functionality may be restricted. Local storage can be cleared through the same browser settings you use to clear cookies and other site data.

Other Tracking Technologies

Cookies are not the only way to recognize or track visitors. We may from time to time use similar technologies like web beacons (also called tracking pixels or clear gifs), tiny graphics files with a unique identifier that let us recognize when someone has visited our website. This allows us, for example, to monitor traffic patterns from one page to another and to improve site performance. These technologies often rely on cookies to function, so declining cookies impairs them too.

Updates to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, for example to reflect changes to the cookies we use or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. The date at the bottom of this policy indicates when it was last updated.
